Food Service

Lunch is served in the Cafeteria, which provides an opportunity to increase options and improve the quality of food. Community breakfast continues to be suspended.

    • Lunches occur by grade level and require students to limit socializing and maintain as much distance as possible during service.

    • Prior to arriving in the cafeteria, students will be required to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. At the conclusion of each lunch period, tables will be cleaned and sanitized.

    • Lunch is not self-service; however, FLIK continues to provide hot lunch service, consisting of pre-plated hot meals with single-serve beverages and sandwiches.

    • Snacks are delivered to the landings for the Lower and Middle School students to pick up.

    • Upper School students have open campus privileges and may go off campus for lunch.

Extended Programs

Friends recognizes that before and after school programs are essential for many working families and will endeavor to meet the needs of such families, as well as to provide enriching programs for our students, to the extent possible.

  • We make reasonable efforts to ensure that children who are in the same division/grade are placed in the same after-school program.

  • Masking is required for all extended programs that occur indoors and outdoors.

Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities

Consistent with NY State guidelines, Friends has resumed limited athletics (Grades 7-12), performing arts and other extra and co-curricular activities.

  • To the extent activities occur inside, all students, faculty, staff and coaches are required to wear masks/face coverings.

  • To the extent activities occur outside, students, faculty, staff and coaches may only remove face coverings if/when permitted by supervising adults.

  • Guidance regarding local day trips will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be pre-approved by division heads and the designated senior administrators to ensure that safety protocols are being met.

Overnight Trips

The School plans to resume some programmed domestic overnight trips for educational purposes. All participants of overnight trips must be vaccinated and willing to submit to pre and post testing. Overnight trips must go through approval protocols with the appropriate senior administrative staff prior to any announcements to students or parents. Friends will evaluate each trip consistent with CDC and New York State guidelines. The School also reserves the right to postpone or cancel any plans based on the developing situation and guidance related to COVID-19 and the Delta variant.

Back to School Nights, Parent Conferences and Other Events Outside the School Day

We received positive feedback from parents in 2020-2021 who appreciated the safety and convenience of Back to School Nights and Parent Conferences occurring via Zoom. As such, and in order to protect the health and safety of our faculty and staff, as well as students, parents and caregivers, we will continue to hold Back to School Nights and Parent Conferences via Zoom for the time being. Other meetings and events typically held outside the school day will be evaluated for safety on an event-by-event basis. Depending on the general health climate at the time, such activities may be cancelled, rescheduled or held via Zoom.
